The TOUROZ RF1 fitted with the new 177hp motor is available in Australia and it offers an amazingly responsive ride without compromising the subtle enjoyments of RF1 TOUROZ touring.
Perfect for straight or twisting roads, it effortlessly takes on the apexes of corners and swiftly exits to the open road. And all with the safe and relaxed driving feel that comes with high performance triking and the security of ABS brakes when needed.
Here’s our test riders perspective…
For the initial ride the gear selector was placed in ‘D’ for drive and the fast shifting was left to the electronic Transmission Control Unit (TCU).
In contrast to the 7-speed configuration of the other models available, the technicians have programmed an eighth gear for the 177HP version. This makes it possible to achieve a comfortable cruising speed at lower engine revolutions.
By electronic manipulation of ECU, a different fuel pump and a turbo boost upgrade has increased HP from 140 to 177HP and improved torque at lower engine speed to 246nm. Even in the D drive selection this trike is surprisingly responsive.
The transmission creates the correct ratio for the required response from the hand throttle at any given time. 100KPH can be reached without a lot of fuss in just over 5 seconds.
When you move the gear selector to SP – Sports Performance – by using the Power Shifter located on the left handlebar grip, you can shift the gear ratios with your left thumb and forefinger. You can shift the gears, up and down early if you choose, to whisper through the country roads at low revs. Cruise Control is also available in these models and adds another dimension to the pleasure of riding.
In conclusion, the new 177HP turbo 4-cylinder Mitsubishi engine in the RF1 TOUROZ gives amazing high performance without compromising the subtle enjoyment of trike riding. The transformation to a road hugging sports machine can happen with just a twist of the throttle. The brakes and chassis are more than equal to the power. The now, 8-speed CVT transmission, maximises driving pleasure either automatically or manually shifted.
